FROM THE FIELDS: COLD CHAIN MANAGEMENT

June 27, 2024

Summer has officially started, and many parts of the US and Canada have been experiencing abnormally warm temperatures over the last several days due to strong high pressure, preventing cool air from traveling in.

This is the time of year that we experience the highest amount of customer feedback related to temperature abuse or improper handling of commodity and value-added row crop vegetables shipping from the Salinas Valley and other west coast growing regions. As we move further into the summer months, strict cold chain management throughout distribution to the end-user level will be critical for maximizing quality and shelf-life of perishable produce items.
