If exposed to warm, humid conditions, coconuts may become moldy. Store fruit at 32-36° F/0-2° C.
Light weight for size generally indicates moisture loss. Extreme temperature fluctuations or rough handling may cause cracked shells.

The outer husk is extremely hard with fibrous strings attached; inside there is chewy, meaty, pure-white flesh.
