Green Onions

Receiving Inspecting:

Look for green onions that are crisp with fresh, tender green tops and slightly bulbed white ends. Avoid onions with discolored, decaying, or wilted tops.

Storage Handling:

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 32-36° F/0-2° C
  • 90-98% relative humidity
7 to 10 days.

Yellow or decayed tops may result from storing green onions at high temperatures, or from exposure to ethylene gas. Store properly; keep away from ethylene-producing fruits and ripening rooms.

Usage Ideas:

  • Grill whole green onions and Portabella mushrooms with tri-tip steak.
  • Stir chopped green onions into mashed potatoes, polenta, risotto, and omelets.
