Avocado supplies are extremely limited, as Mexico’s harvest is down 25-30%. The California and Peruvian seasons are underway, but volume is not sufficient to support the U.S./Canadian avocado demand over the next three weeks. The industry is in a far demand-exceeds-supply situation.
Mexico
- The Michoacan growing season is wrapping up earlier than anticipated this year
- The incoming summer crop from Jalisco is not meeting maturity standards; dry conditions have delayed harvests until late June
- Expect to make size and grade substitutions to help fill orders
- Suppliers are currently not quoting out lid pricing: orders will be priced day of at market price
- Markets are escalating with extremely tight supplies forecast for the next two to three weeks
California/Peru
- Stocks will tighten as both regions fill shortages from Mexico
- Quality is good; all sizes are extremely limited
- The industry is in a demand-exceeds-supply situation
- Expect to make size and grade substitutions to help fill orders
