UPDATE: BROCCOLI

November 27, 2024

Markon First Crop (MFC) Premium Broccoli is sporadically available in Yuma, Arizona. Steady supplies of MFC Broccoli Crowns are coming from Mexico (into South Texas).

  • Domestic markets are elevated amid tight supplies
    • End-of-season West Coast supplies are minimal as final fields are harvested
      • The season will end by the first week of December
      • Conditions for mildew and pin rot exist as California weather is cool and wet
    • New crop Arizona-California desert region supplies are exhibiting strong quality
      • Crowns are small following persistent cold and windy weather in early November
      • Temperatures will increase slowly through this week, aiding growth
  • Mexican volume is increasing week over week
    • Markets remain much lower than those on the West Coast, offering large potential FOB cost and freight savings
    • Quality ranges from good to very good; high-performing varieties will be harvested through the end of the year
  • Expect prices to start inching down as desert region volume increases in 14-21 days
