Lemon markets remain active due to strong spring/summer demand. Small lemons (165- through 200-count fruit) are extremely limited. The California Navel orange season will end in early to mid-July; Valencias are now the main variety.
Lemons
- Markon First Crop (MFC) and Essentials (ESS) Lemons are available
- Spring/summer demand remains active; markets continue to rise
- Heavy rainfall experienced in California this past winter/spring caused fruit size to increase faster than normal, resulting in predominantly large lemons
- California supplies are dominated by 75- through 115-count fruit
- Small-size lemons (165- through 235-count fruit) will be extremely limited over the next 4 to 6 weeks
- Argentine stocks have begun to hit markets on the East Coast; volume is low
- Chilean supplies are expected to arrive on the West Coast in the next two weeks
- Mexican lemons will arrive into the U.S. in late July
Oranges
- MFC and ESS Navel and Valencia Oranges are available
- Navel supplies are winding down for the season
- California Valencia volume is rising; new crop fruit is dominated by 88- through 113-count oranges
- South African and Chilean Navels are expected to arrive in early July
