UPDATE: HURRICANE IDA

August 30, 2021

Hurricane Ida quickly grew into a Category Four hurricane over the weekend and caused major damage to the southeastern U.S., especially Louisiana and Mississippi. The supply chain in the region will be heavily impacted.

As Ida weakens to a tropical storm and heads to the Northeast, many crops along its path are expected to receive heavy rain and strong winds along with potential flooding which could affect supply and quality over the next 7 to 10 days within the following commodities:

  • Bell Peppers
  • Cucumbers
  • Eggplant
  • Green Beans
  • Squash
  • Tomatoes

Long-term effects to fall plantings in the panhandle are also anticipated. Markon will continue to monitor and update as more information becomes available.
