UPDATE: MEXICAN AVOCADOS

Avocado harvesting, packing, and shipping operations have started in a limited manner in the Uruapan growing region of Michoacan, Mexico only. The Mexican federal and state governments along with industry leaders will be meeting today in Morelia, Mexico to hopefully come to a permanent resolution. Markon will continue to update as news develops.

  • Inventories of Michoacan, Mexican avocados are low
    • Michoacan is the largest growing region in Mexico, accounting for 85% of the nation’s avocados
    • The current crop is winding down and the next crop (Loca) crop will begin shipping in mid-July
  • Inventories of Jalisco, Mexican avocados are limited
    • Jalisco accounts for 15% of the nation’s avocados
    • The current crop is winding down and the next crop (Loca) crop will begin shipping in mid-July
  • California and Peruvian stocks will be shipped to help fill the void but will not meet U.S. demand
  • Size, grade, and country of origin substitutions may be requested to fill orders
  • Expect markets to level out and slowly decline in late July
