Expect active markets. Colder weather is forecast for the Santa Maria, California growing region; berries may exhibit light discoloration and size fluctuations. Growers aim to harvest until mid-December, weather permitting.

Santa Maria/California

  • Markon First Crop (MFC) Strawberries are available
  • Size currently ranges from medium to medium-large (46 to 52 berries per 2-pound clamshell)
  • Quality is good
    • Texture is fairly firm and flavor is mildly sweet
    • Problems may include wind and/or water damage
  • Volume will fall, keeping markets active

Oxnard/California

  • MFC Strawberries are available
  • Size ranges from 21 to 23 berries per 8/1-pound clamshells
  • Quality is good
  • Texture is firm
  • Flavor is mildly sweet
  • Possible issues include uneven size and green shoulders
  • Low volume and elevated pricing will persist

Mexico (into South Texas)

  • The season has started in a limited manner
  • Volume will increase weekly
  • Size ranges from 23 to 25 berries per 8/1-pound clamshell
  • Quality is good; uneven sizing and light bruising are occasional problems
  • The market will remain strong

Florida

  • Recent hurricanes have pushed back the season’s start date for approximately two to three weeks
