Receiving Inspecting:

Kiwifruit should be plump with no wrinkles or signs of exterior damage. Unripe fruit will be firm to the touch; ripe fruit will give to gentle pressure.

Storage Handling:

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 32-36° F/0-2° C
  • 90-98% relative humidity
7 to 10 days.

Rough handling may cause bruised or broken skin; keep handling to a minimum.

Softening, shriveling, and mold are signs of spoilage due to exposure to ethylene gas; keep away from ethylene-producing fruits and ripening rooms.

Usage Ideas:

  • Top baked meringue puffs with pastry cream, chopped kiwifruit, minced strawberries, and finely chopped pistachios.
  • Roll strips of kiwifruit and Swiss cheese in sliced turkey and ham; secure rolls with toothpicks and serve as appetizers.
