Receiving Inspecting:

Good quality loquats should be firm, free of any green color or bruising, and exhibit a sweet aroma.

Storage Handling:

Short-term storage recommendation (7 days or less)

  • 32-36° F/0-2° C
  • 90-98% relative humidity
14 to 21 days.

Internal browning, light weights, and shriveling are caused by exposure to warm temperatures; maintain proper storage temperatures.

Water-soaked fruit and soft spots are symptoms of freeze damage. Do not store below 32° F/0° C.

Usage Ideas:

  • Add loquats to crumbles, salsas, jams, and chutneys.
  • Braise loquats with pork or chicken, sliced onions, and minced garlic; serve with white rice and cilantro.
